For Relationships, Sex & Health Education Support
Helping our schools meet statutory duties,
Supporting young people to a safer, happier and more resilient future.
We are delighted to announce that we have a new collaboration between Step 2, JAMES and Brathay, to deliver Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSE) delivery across Bradford.
In July this year the revision to the ‘RSE and Health Education Statutory guidance’ was published. ‘The education secretary, Bridget Phillipson, said: “Children today are bombarded by content – whether it’s Instagram influencers with impossible expectations for how we should look, or algorithms that trap young people in a vortex of vices from gambling to drugs.’ (theguardian.com 15/7/25)
Education settings have until September 2026 to be fully compliant with the new guidance. This new RSE partnership will work with schools to review their existing RSE curriculum and offer; delivery, CPD training and further support to ensure educational settings in Bradford are RSE compliant.
“Bradford is in a unique position with this investment in RSE support. It gives our schools and our young people a great opportunity to understand safe, positive and healthy RSE messages, appropriate for their age and individual needs. It will make a difference both in terms of schools meeting their OFSTED requirements and most importantly how our young people, think, feel and behave as they move into adulthood.” (Liz Robinson, CEO Step 2)
The team is bigger, and includes an RSE teacher, alongside a range of professionals, with experience of working with young people, and delivery of the RSE curriculum. The service will be available to all mainstream secondary schools and is now extended to year 5 and 6 in primary schools. It will also be available to specialist educational settings. The programme will be tailored to the needs of each particular school and their student population.
Quotes from Bradford schools:
“The new knowledge the students have, shows in the way they speak to each other...We also see them looking out for each other more and having more positive relationships with others.”
“The delivery staff are always extremely professional when both answering queries and sending the resources to school ready for the sessions. On the day the staff are always professional, on time, eager to engage the students and knowledgeable”
